The head of the Minnesota DFL Party says the situation involving state Attorney General nominee Keith Ellison is 'very fluid'.

Ken Martin told WCCO Radio's Roshini Rajkumar the party is taking allegations that Ellison abused a former girlfriend very seriously.

"My hope is that if Keith Ellison continues to be our nominee, that this is put behind him and that these are addressed head-on so that we can focus our attention on keeping this office, which is a critical office for DFL'ers and a critical office for Minnesotans, frankly."

Martin says they're continuing to look into the allegations against Ellison. Ellison has denied any wrongdoing and told WCCO-TV's Esme Murphy the allegations are false. As to why ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan and her son would have said such things?

"I don't know," said Ellison. "I mean, I don't want to speculate on a motive. I don't know. I've asked myself many times, 'Why?' But, I'm not going to try to speculate on motive."

Monahan said there was a tape of one incident where Ellison grabbed her by the ankles and pulled her off a bed, but she said she didn't want to make the video public because it would traumatizing and set too high a bar for other victims. Ellison had said the tape does not exist because the incident didn't happen.
